Sky Sports has ordered a six-part series featuring Leicester City and England striker Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy from Zig Zag.

The indie scored access to the Premier League winner earlier this year and is now producing a 6 x 60-minute series with the pay-TV broadcaster.

The commission is the latest co-production with Krempelwood Entertainment, the fledgling content agency founded by former Sky commercial director Mark Wood and Sponsorvision founder Blair Krempel, which is also producing North One’s History series Rocket Ronnie’s American Hustle and Channel 5’s STV-produced Tour De Celeb.

It is also produced in association with Fleet Street Sport & Media Group, which was founded by former Irish striker Niall Quinn MBE.

The documentary series will explore Vardy’s V9 Academy, set up to discover the next generation of footballing stars from non-league talent.

The academy will host its first intake of 42 players in May 2017 at Manchester City’s training complex. The successful applicants will be split into three teams of 14 players for a week-long residential programme. Professional scouts and agents from Key Sports Management will also be in attendance.

The show, which originally had a working title of Jamie Vardy’s Having An Academy, was commissioned by Sky Sports’ Andy Feeney and is exec produced by Zig Zag’s Danny Fenton and Andy Scott.

Fenton said Vardy was the “poster boy” for Leicester’s success the previous season.

Now he wants to offer that fairy tale opportunity to others like him who are playing in the non-league and want to be professionals,” he added.

Zig Zag has secured exclusive access to Jamie and his V9 Academy and with the support of Sky we look forward to bringing this six-part series to the world.”
